DESIGN STATEMENT

SCHOOL FOR DYNAMICS OF URBAN ACTIVITIES
Create dynamic platforms for students, teachers and citizens vividly connected into actual social and cultural scenes or urban activities. Various chances of events for Creation and Presentation are prepared for them actively to pick up and learn from. The spatial organization for such education follows gREAL EXPERIENCEh through body movement/ language or face-to-face communication based on craftsmanship and team-spirit in the age of digital production.

SCHOOL OF NEW PUBLIC SPACE OR 4-DIMENSIONAL PARKS
Prepare various semi-out door open spaces such as CONOURSE PLAZA, GREATE APPROACH SLOPE, ROOF-TOP GARDEN and KURU-KURU STREET as urban public spaces.
CONOURSE PLAZA provides urban public programs such as auditorium, gallery, library and restaurant with the link to the surrounding footbridge or towns. GREAT APPROACH SLOPE generates smooth pedestrian movement from the subway exit @ south-west corner and greenery FRONT PLAZA. ROOF-TOP GARDEN disperses the patches of lawn carpets and gpop-up-edh building roofs and produces the atmosphere of open air living room surrounded by towers. KURU-KURU STREET (TERRACE) wraps entire building to enjoyably connect the different platforms from street level to ROOF-TOP GARDEN with very gentle inclination less than 1/20. It enhances panoramic terrace viewing to surroundings towns, streets, mountains and sea. Furthermore this seamless connection of open spaces brings various gseeing and being seenh situations between student and pedestrian or performer and audience. Paradoxically, these residue spaces might be more critical or gnutritioush than the programmed or operational spaces so as the skin of apple is more nutritious than its content of juicy and tasty fruit. It protects its freshness.

A SENSE OF gUNITYh IN UNIVERSAL LOUNGE AND A SENSE OF gROOMh
Balance the sense of gUNITYh in large universal interior and the sense of gROOMh or coziness in walled separated territories. Instead of being packed all programs into confined rooms, some of them are scattered into open platform breaking homogeneity of this binomial spatial relation ? abstraction of box rooms and transparency of lounge - with amplifying more flexible and ambiguous interior scenes. For example at the studio level, some units are rigidly segregating by being sunken from the main level without breaking its panoramic experience of universal lounge. Contrary, some units are kept on the main platform and displayed freely on the transparent space as gOPEN STUDIOh dealing with more elastic situation. Furniture and partition layouts are essential to work well with this condition. The way of spatial organization or operation aims to generate divers compositions or gseeing and being seen situationh with similar interrelation between KURU-KURU STREET and Main Platforms.

SCHOOL FOR COLLABORATION, INDEPENDENCY AND FREEDOM
Break the convention of gstudents under teachersh, permit freedoms and cultivate responsibilities. Frequently, young@students can learn something more important by mutually inspiring and competing themselves than that of passively learned from teachers. Conversely, teachers should cast them into their student circle to learn WITH. The goal is not to force the situation but to naturally originate such atmospheres of open-ended education in the design field.

LANDSCAPE & BUILDING ECOLOGY
Participate in the local climate of sunny, hot and humid temperatures. Without depending on heavy mechanical equipment, the environmental-friendly air conditioning system affected by the difference of air pressure and temperature between 3 hollow columns is to seek one of the solutions. Simultaneously, re-using of ample rain water accumulated on the large roof is one of them. The building roof and grounds should be maintained lots of soft surfaces to absorb rain water and to cool down the temperature. Rather than perfectly shielded by glazed skin, the building envelop should be porous and be rich in semi-outdoor spaces to enjoy with hot climate. KURU-KURU STREET TERRACE is useful not only for the pedestrian transportation but also for the deep sun-shading to block the strong sun-light in summer and to introduce the mild sun-light in winter to warm up the interior. Instead of counted on full fixed curtain wall, the window screen should be able to be largely and comfortably opened so that the building can catch the wind and fresh air to come through.
